Shower Melts or Steamers are little tablets or balls that dissolve in water and release a beautiful aroma.
Unlike bath bombs, which generally contain some moisturizing benefits, shower melts are infused with essential oils or some other ingredients to release therapeutic scents.
Convenience and Ease of Use:
Simple to Use: Just place a steamer or melt on the shower floor away from direct water flow, and the steam will activate the essential oils.
No Mess: Unlike bath bombs, which can sometimes leave residue in the tub, shower steamers dissolve away cleanly.

Shower Melts Recipe
This recipe will make around 15-20 shower melts, depending on the size of your molds.
Ingredients
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 1/2 cup sea salt or Epsom salt
- 20-25 drops of essential oils (see blends below)
- Water (about 2-3 teaspoons)
Method
- Combine baking soda and salt into a glass bowl.
- Add water slowly, start with about 2 teaspoons and stir well. Continue adding a the water, a little at a time and mix in.
- You are looking for the consistency of damp sand. You should be able to squeeze the melt, and it holds its shape.
- Finally, add in your essential oils and transfer them to the silicone molds. If you grease the mold with a brush of vegetable oil, the melt will come out easier and retain the pattern of the mold more fully.
- Pack each mold tightly to ensure there are no air bubbles.
- Allow the shower tablets to dry completely before removing them from the molds; about 48 hours.
Store in an airtight container out of direct sunlight. I store mine in a glass jar under my vanity unit. For the best results, use within one month. If you don’t use them within a month, you may need to add 1-2 drops of essential oil on top of the shower melt before use.
Scent Ideas
Lime, Tea Tree, Buddha Wood for a rejuvenating, bright and earthy blend.
Lavender, Geranium, Sandalwood for a settling blend to support deep breathing.
Eucalytpus, Lemon Myrtle, for a restorative, cold, flu and sinus relieving blend.
Practices for Using Essential Oil Shower Steamers or Melts
- Placement: Place the steamer or melt on the shower floor but not directly under the water stream. This allows it to slowly dissolve and release the essential oils throughout the shower.
- Storage: Keep steamers in a cool, dry place to prevent them from dissolving prematurely. Airtight containers can help preserve their potency.
- Safety: Ensure the essential oils used are safe for inhalation and are properly diluted to avoid any skin irritation or respiratory issues.
- Use High-Quality Ingredients: Opt for high-quality essential oils, pure baking soda, and natural salts to maximize the benefits and avoid any adverse reactions.
By incorporating essential oil shower steamers or melts into your routine, you can enjoy a spa-like experience with minimal effort, making your showers more relaxing, therapeutic, and enjoyable.
